Coach Ian Miller
MWA Founder and Head Coach
Miller Wrestling Academy Founder and Head Coach Ian Miller’s long list of accolades both on the mat and as a collegiate coach speaks for itself.
A 3X NCAA Division 1 All-American for Kent State University, 2X University National Freestyle Champion, and an Ohio State Champion, Coach Miller was ranked amongst the best wrestlers in the nation throughout his competitive career.
“I think wrestling is a really unique sport,” says Coach Miller. “You’ll get out of it as much as you’ll put into it, and if you buy into this — then great things will happen. I like to say that you need to work hard and believe every day that you’re going to get better, and this sport will treat you well. And that’s what I love about wrestling. It teaches you discipline, work ethic, setting goals and working toward them — and those are skills that you’ll take with you, long after you stop competing.”
Most recently, Coach Miller spent four years as an assistant coach with Oregon State University and three years as the Head Assistant Coach at Appalachian State University. At the collegiate level, he has coached 32 athletes to the NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships, six athletes to All-American honors, 21 conference champions, and a current Olympian. His teams have been ranked in the top 20 of all D1 programs nationally.
“I thought it would be hard to give up competing, but it was incredible how quickly I became much more passionate about coaching,” says Coach Miller. “Seeing my athletes reach their goals are now my proudest moments. Seeing them stand on those podiums are the moments that are now my favorite.”
Coach Miller currently serves as an Assistant Athletic Director and Head Wrestling Coach for Western Reserve Academy.
